I want to reiterate my hopes and ideas for this page. I want to be an example for people. I want those out there who are unsatisfied with their current career choice but are scared of leaving for fear of being labeled a job hopper to realize that things don't have to feel so hopeless. After feeling stuck at two high pressure jobs, I decided to gut it up and move on and I know that I'm going to be successful.
I've decided to set off on a career in commercial insurance. I understand the word insurance makes people cringe and visions of used car salesman dance in their heads. I understand that, believe me, I do. I have made a commitment to myself and to my fiance though. I will give this career a minimum of two years before I decide to reassess. I'm hopeful that in those two years, I will see a degree of success that can only continue to build. I know that this type of business relies strongly on lead generation, cold calling, etc. I also know that I can do these types of activities and not come across as one of those used car salesmen. I put a great deal of research into this move as I detailed in another entry and I'm confident that I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. Nobody really wants to talk about insurance until they need it.
Up to this point, my only real understanding of insurance is the fact that I have to have it for my house and for my car. It goes without saying that I need to become an expert in all things insurance. I start this Monday but in the mean time, I've tried researching to the best of my abilities the background and basics of insurance both personal and commercial. I have to take a pre-licensing education course and then sit for an exam. My focus will be on Property and Casualty. I spoke with a marketing group that provides that training and should be signed up sometime today. I also spoke with one of the owners of the company with which I'll be working and made sure I was aware of the dress code, expected arrival times, etc. I'm excited to start out on this new journey and I'll be sure to document the steps I'm taking on a journey into a new career that I think people will find useful.
